I believe what we're seeing is an example of some of his work on a custom bulletin board script. I could be wrong, though. :P |

I believe it was a cleaner, custom theme? I may be wrong also.
Does anyone know of any RMXP scripts that allow the designer to put a custom bar, kinda like a health or magic bar, on the screen? One that's NOT a hud, but measures a variable against another number or variable to get the percentage? I know enough programming now to make it myself, but I'm lazy and don't want to make it because I'm sure this is already out there somewhere.

I got a Question... I hope I could get some serious Answers & Opinions.
Can a person steal Your art, even if what is in it has a Representation of them? - No Permission - No Indication of the artist - and THEY make $$$ off of the video. Im Part of a Group that watches a specific online entertainer. During one of his videos, playing "I wanna be the boshy". I thought it'd be funny to draw a MS Paint picture of him vs the boss. I showed it to the people of this group and we all had a laugh. After Finally beating this boss... I noticed he actually PICK my picture to use as his Video for Youtube (The one you see as the Thumbnail) but as I logged in to my account... no Messages. On the video itself... no "Thank you"s for the picture. and while he was streaming, I asked his Moderator about it... and they told me "don't care".

This is one of those questions that has various shades of grey— there is no 100% right answer. As far as American law is concerned, I think that since the picture is of him, he can bloody well use it if he likes. However, artists also have an automatic copyright over their own works— again, American law. If for some incredible reason it ends up in a court of law, the judge would most likely side with him, not you.
As for my thoughts, like I said there's no right answer. My advice would probably change depending on what mood I'm in. But with that being said, I'm pretty sure this reaction picture I have here is an absolutely perfect way to describe what your response should now be:

Kumo, I made a 'progress bar' script for GTBS. You can download the GTBS project and pull just that portion out if you want. It has some other dependencies, but they can be quickly resolved.
EvGuy, the correct action for you would be ask him to 'give thanks' for the image or ask them to remove it as the copyright holder you are. Although, at the same time, the money he "MAY" be getting is not due to the picture but the content. While you are entitled to a 'portion' of that because of the use of your works. The question is, is it worth pursuing? The answer is likely no. If that is the case, again my only suggestion is to ask for them to give you thanks for the image. Thats about it though. Kumo does speak the truth on it.

I suggest adding copyright statements and even a watermark to your work.
As an artist I know it's a hard life out there. People don't exactly appreciate art and artists and think of it as "just drawings". They also don't give a damn about copyrights UNLESS they can get their asses sued. The cost of making good art is that people want it. And when people want it, some don't see why they can't just take it. Forget the fact that you had his image on it, even if you didn't, there are literally hundreds on cases like that. That's simply the cost of sharing good art. If you want security, lock that thing up, but if you do, no one's gonna see it. It's almost a catch-22. I'm afraid you'll have to let this one go (seeing as how the people there are assholes and won't give a shit anyway). Be thankful they're not making $$$ DIRECTLY by selling your drawing. Hey all!
Been quite a while, I know! So I spent several hours today giving Servage the boot and switching over to BlueHost. The price is comparable to what I've been paying Servage (though not comparable to what I was WANTING to pay Servage). When I asked Servage for a 36 month deal, they told me they could ONLY accept payment by a bank transfer or by CASH! Neither method is what I would consider secure when sending money overseas..... That having been said, anyone who has been utilizing any of my webspace (Particularly Mass & SK), you'll need to get with me to fix your nameservers! |
