I live about an hour and a half away from L.A., in a tiny desert town. True story. True, sad, sad story.

It is truly amazing how long the internet will keep some images alive.

(Since I don't remember if I posted this earlier and I'm too lazy to go look...)

I am now a full-time employee with the school district I worked part-time for last year. I was hired on as the computer lab teacher. (I'm not actually a teacher, I'm classified as an educational aide...and I don't actually get to teach the kids anything since they have other stuff they're required to do while in the lab....)

Due to a series of interesting events, my roommate has the same job at a school in the same district, but about 3 miles or so down the road from where I work.

I'm currently on spring break and my birthday is next month! :D

That is all! ^_^

Is your job more monitoring the students than teaching them, then? If you had the option to teach them, would you? If so, what subject? :)

I'm very interested in teaching of some sort, myself, so this is a fun topic for me.

So, since this place is so slow and dead, is there somewhere else that everyone is hanging out?

Picture this: A seedy cantina on Tatooine. Greedo draws a blaster at Han Solo. Han has his blaster out, concealed under the table. Two shots go off and Greedo falls to the ground. People quesiton who shot first. Later, an autopsy reveals a Bat-a-rang embedded in Greedo's chest...

It probably happened that way.

Not much has changed since the last time I talked about what I've been up to. Still no full-time job, but freelance business is pretty good.
I recently got myself a new girlfriend :D

We were classmates for 2 years but only got close in the middle of third year, where we both talked to each other about relationship troubles. I don't know why but for all my past relationships I've always started in the friendzone. This time though, I broke through. Asked her out in a Valentine's Day picnic, and she was initially uncomfortable and unsure (as expected when breaking through friendzone) and at first it seemed like she could take back that "yes" anytime.

During one of our dates she said she felt really awkward. We talked and I basically told her I'm not gonna pressure her and she's absolutely free to do what she thinks is best. I stroked her hair. I come to find that it was the turning point, as she suddenly felt at home in my arms. Now, thankfully, it's all good. She's very affectionate.

As in other forums? Not me. Just Facebook, but I mostly just interact with a handful of people.

Remember all that crap about "her" ?

Just Facebook, really. I think that the heyday of Internet forums has come and gone.

Yeah, I basically just babysit. They have a reading program and multiple math programs that they have to have so much time in each week, which far exceeds the time they are scheduled in the lab each week, go figure....

I would LOVE to get into teaching them typing and internet skills beyond playing games on crappy ad-bloated "free" sites... the best I've done so far is to get some of the older kids playing with Code.org. I'm planning on shifting more and more of their very limited free time to activities like that. The problem is, there's only so much you can do in 5 minutes.

I've been talking with our new principal and she seems very open to restructuring the way things are done to make lab time actual technology time, rather than me baby-sitting so the "real" teachers can have their planning time.:P

I don't have the education to be a full-fledged teacher (and, frankly, not sure I WANT to be...seems like a bad deal as far as time spent vs. pay....though they definitely make a lot more than I do)

In Texas, you have to have at least a bachelor's degree and then either the go through actual college to be a teacher (another 4+ years?) or go through a process called Alternative Certification.

My official pay is something like $12/hour....In actuality, I make about $9/hour. The rest of the money is shaved off to make 3 checks over the summer when I DON'T have to work. :P That is going to be niiiiiiiiiiiiiiicccccccccccccccccceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...... :D
